THE
ZIMMERMAN
STORY

For more than 60 years, Zimmerman Industries has been making advancements and progress possible in the volumetric concrete industry.

I

n the early 1960s, our founder, Harold Zimmerman—a Pennsylvania farmer and inventor—recognized the need for on-site, freshly batched concrete. He realized the most efficient solution was to integrate batching, mixing, and delivery into a single machine. Drawing on his farming background, he ingeniously adapted a manure spreader for the bins. After several years of dedicated research and development, Mr. Zimmerman applied for a patent on his new concrete mixer in 1964, which was officially granted in March 1967.

Driven by a commitment to improvement, Mr. Zimmerman continuously enhanced his patented mobile concrete mixer, making it more efficient, durable, and easier to operate and maintain. These advancements garnered additional patents, leading to the 1979 debut of the Zim-Mixer, manufactured and marketed by Zimmerman Industries, Inc. A defining feature of the Zim-Mixer is its innovative use of individual chains to precisely deliver sand, stone, and cement into the mixing chamber in any desired combination. This groundbreaking change significantly boosted the mixer’s utility while simultaneously reducing maintenance costs by over 75%. To this day, Zim-Mixers are the only volumetric mixers equipped with this proprietary technology. The Zimmerman family proudly continues Mr. Zimmerman’s tradition of innovation and dedication to customer satisfaction, maintaining their leadership in the industry he originated.

Zimmerman Industries delivers Zim-Mixers globally, serving all segments of the concrete industry. These units are actively building highways in Africa, repairing bridge decks from Seoul to Washington D.C., creating New York City walkways, and constructing new dams in Pennsylvania. They’re even at work in South American mines. The US Military utilizes Zim-Mixers for essential road and runway repairs in conflict areas and for humanitarian projects in disaster zones worldwide.

A proud family-owned and operated business, Zimmerman Industries manufactures all its equipment 100% in-house. Their Lancaster County, Pennsylvania facility is the same location where Harold Zimmerman established his legacy in the 1960s, a tradition they continue to uphold.

New Customer

I am a big fan of the history of the company, and that through training and maintenance, I won’t be dealing with someone that just shows up for the job, but someone who takes pride in what they build.

Concrete on Call

It is nice to deal with people who care, think our business is important and provide us with great products and exceptional service. One of the best decisions we ever made was partnering with Zimmerman Industries in 1995. A great deal of our success is clearly, in part, because of their help and influence.
